Nutty PETA

The nuts are at it again. PETA is taking its latest screwball anti-fishing campaign to Jacksonville, FL today. Their latest slogan is 'Don't Let Your Kids become Hookers.'

PETA brings fishing campaign to Jax

'Don't let your kids become hookers,' is PETA's new slogan
Published On: Jun 13 2012 06:30:03 AM EDT

'Don't let your kids become hookers.' That's the latest campaign slogan being pushed by the animal rights group, PETA.

The catchy slogan supports its protest of sport fishing and parents who teach their children to fish.

The group is bringing the movement and their controversial campaign to Jacksonville Wednesday afternoon.

Peta members will gather at the Friendship Fountain on the Southbank around noon Wednesday to take part in an anti-fishing campaign leading up to Father's Day.

Their message is to parents. They say parents who teach their children to fish are sending the message that it's okay to torment and kill animals.

PETA protestors will be holding signs that say, 'Don't let your kids become hookers' and handing out flyers with a gruesome picture of a hooked fish.

'People don't really think how fish feel,' PETA campaigner Hayden Hamilton said. 'They suffer when they're caught and killed. Seven million Americans are actually allergic to seafood so there's so many great options, vegetarian and vegan options, so we don't have to keep poisoning our bodies with mercury and we don't have to abuse animals while we're at it.'

PETA also released a poster with a hook through a dog, which many may find disturbing. Its message is that hooking and killing a fish is no different than doing that to the family pet.
'Most parents would never dream of spending their family weekend trying to hook the family dog. But hooking a fish through the mouth and dragging him through the water is just as cruel as hooking the family dog through the mouth and dragging him behind your car,' Hamilton said. 'Fish feel pain and suffer just like all animals do and they deserve to be protected from abuse.'
Fishermen argue dogs and fish are completely different saying that people depend on fish to live.

'That's not cruel. That's not cruel to fish. A lot of people survive off of fish,' fishermen Curtis Washington said. 'They catch fish to survive off. That's all they eat. I know some people living on the water. There's a guy down there on Trout River. He's got a little houseboat. He catches fish. He feeds off fish. That's all he eats is fish.'

PETA members will gather at the Friendship Fountain at noon Wednesday. They'll also have their fish mascot, hoping to reach out to parents and kids with their anti-fishing message.

Grand Isle

They rumbled one year about coming down to protest the Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo. I'm guessing one of their members with a little sense realized that it was a one way in/out road and thought better of it. They never showed!

Beat me too it

C.Holmes....I remember that and was about to post on that every topic. I was sitting at a bar in G.I. when some locals just 'could not wait for them crazies to come protest.' I wish no harm on anyone, but have to admit a PETA protest at G.I. would have been very funny.

PETA

I remember being at the first Classic that was held in New Orleans. We were driving the competitors to and from the launch and in between that we just hung at at the Sportsman's Show. There were a couple of PETA people there handing out the pamphlets of the dog with the hook in his lip. One of the guys in our group had his 9 year old son walking with him. One of the protestors tried to give the boy a pamphlet and the dad told his son to ignore the protestor. The protestor took offense to this and grabbed the little boys arm. When he did, the father turned around and reached all the way to Mississippi to grab his right hook and POW!!!!! knocked the protestor smooth out. NOPD were called and when they heard the story, the father was told to have a nice day and the protestor was told to beat feet and to expect the same treatment from everyone else...

PETA

C - we kinda figured NOPD would give the guy some grief. We knew nothing would happen to him but figured the grief would just have to be dealt with. The 2 officers that responded dished out plenty grief, just NOT to the father.
Kinda made me wish I wouldv'e had my son with me, I've always wanted to KO a PETA pansy...

yep

I remember when PETA was planning to come the Tarpon Rodeo. They were gonna don scuba gear and cut the lines of fishermen at the platforms and anywhere they could. Someone must have clued them in that that dog wouldn't down here, and PETA folks would not fare well.

re

wasnt jesus christ a fisherman? didnt his dad create the fish? wouldn't he know best?

im so sick of people in this country trying to push their beliefs on everyone.one of the things that made this country so great is the fact that we can have different oppinions/beliefs. if someone doesnt agree with you on something doesnt mean u need to push it and be a jerk to them.special int groups WILL be the end of us,they've just about ruined it all..keystone,abortion, obamacare, you name it

fish taxi!!!

i like that!!! i think the lord put animals here, so human beings could have something to eat!!! it was ok with him, but, i guess peta, thinks they are a much higher authority, than the lord!!!! why don't they protest eating fruits and vegetables?? do they suffer, who really knows??? excuse my ignorance, but do all peta protesters, not eat anykind of meat or seafood??? i very seriously doubt it!!!! none of them eat popeyes??? hippocrits!!!!

We can't see the woods through the trees

Again we don't have to worry about them only the people we elect. My point was proven today as the health care was upheald by the court. Remember this passed by one one vote right and guess what Mary has one vote right. Peta does not have one vote. The answer is simple get out and support, work and vote for the right people.
