Nobody hurt in either boat!!! Amazing.
The first thing I thought of was that they took a curve too fast and slid into the bank. Then when I found out about the Ranger, I pictured in my mind exactly what you described except the 360 into the bank. I can only imagine the look on your buddy's face with that big ole motor twisting right above his head. My little old tin boat only does 35 but I even slow it down when making turns of any kind, blind or not. At intersections, I almost stop. In my truck, I'm a maniac, but on the water, just call me paw-paw. LOL I'm so glad everybody is o.k. It truly is a miracle. The boats and equipment can be replaced, people can't.
Boats don't follow the 'drive on the right side' concept. If you don't know what side to be on coming around a corner this creates confusion. I was almost in a collision coming around a corner when an oncoming boat was trying to drive on the left. Taking it a step further, even in supermarkets and other places now, left doors open for entry. People don't stay on the right side of the aisles.......I guess I am just a little bit obsessive about the whole thing after the near miss in the water.
Thank goodness everyone was ok. Just because you have the right of way does not mean you should go 60 mph around a blind curve. Think about what might be on the other side of that curve. Maybe a boat is broke down or someone is stopped fishing. A little common courtesy and a little common sense might prevent someone from getting hurt or killed.
Got the info on what happened from passenger in the yellow boat.
Ok I talked to my friend. He was the angler paired with the boater( yellow skeeter) they went to make a blind left hand turn @ 60 mph and took the outside which is correct (pass on the right) and a boat (ranger) was making a right hand turn and took it to wide . Collided with the yellow skeeter on the passenger side and barrel rolled over the skeeter . The motor from the ranger hit the motor from skeeter while barrel rolling over and caused the skeeter to do a 360 onto the bank . Passenger of ranger bailed out in time driver got trapped but eventually came loose and swam to safety . My buddy was the most banged up out of the 4 involved and broke over $3000.00 in rods/reels . So the lesson learned.... Don't blow around blind corners @ 60 mph
