Before you head out get yourself a good laminated block map that shows depths and rigs. Might help you get home quicker if your electronics ever go out.

If you don't have a map you can just point your boat south and look for rigs in 200+ foot of water. Shallower if Amberjack isn't a requirement during its closed season.

Just be careful not to run to far west as you can run southwest while rig hoping and never get to water that is any deeper.

There are a few rigs about 15 to 20 miles de south of cat island pass buoy that hold red snapper and mangroves. sure some cobia hang out there but we didnt get any.

You will need to try the rig around the ST66, 67, 68 and 69 area. This area has a lot of snapper and some big ones. Fish sardines or pogies about 25 to 30 feet down. Any rigs in that area and south will have snapper. For the AJ's you will need to go sout to southwest and find 180 to 200 feet of water and use live hard tails or live pogies about 75 to 125 feet down. good luck

Thanks Capt. Tommy. I'm going to have to try that out. Saw you pulling in to the dock this past saturday afternoon. We stayed inside and did pretty well but took a beating in the proccess.

Fished the rigs Capt. Tommy is talking about opening weekend. loaded with mangroves. Struggled with red snapper but got our limit. Didnt have the best crew.
