I just went through this. Benelli Super Black Eagle II, Beretta 400, Browning Maxus, Remington Versa Max. All incredible guns.
I learned to shoot on old mossberg with flat top and later a remington wingmaster with flat top and with the safety at the rear of the trigger so for a quick shot that is the first place my safety finger goes.
I shot a Benelli Nova, could not hit anything with consistancy because of the raising of the vent rib. I just could not line it up to make a good quick shot. When I needed to apply the safety for a quick shot could not find it because the safety was in front of the trigger.
This left me with the Browning Maxus, flat top, and safety at rear of trigger. I bought this gun and can hit with incredible accuracy. There is some 'Trigger' arguments on the internet about this gun. The trigger is good, crisp, and not hard to pull.
The Benelli does not use gas and is easy to clean because of the inertia system. A lot of people have this gun and are completly satisfied.
The Beretta has the best steel and recoil system. It also has a flat top, but the safety is in front of the trigger. This is good if that is where you want it. A lot of people.
All of these guns are good and will cycle 2-3/4 to 3-1/2' shells. You will shoot the best with the one that fits you. Go to a gun shop that has them all and see which fits YOU the best. I rate a gun with accuracy first, cleaning second, looks third and so forth. Sorry for the long post.
Remington 870 Super mag if duck hunting.
