I have 54 lbs Thrust Troll Motor, I had 30 month Marine Battery had since i bought Boat in July of 09, Its been 30 months since i bought boat Battery went out couple weeks ago, So w/$$$$ being tight i install Car Battery i had in a Car that was being used i used it Last Sunday w/o noproblem&that was on 18 ft Alum Bass Boat so it'll work w/o a Problem, Only on Marine Battery is that it deep cyle longer life You may get some use out car Battery as you would Marine Battery i have no dought there So i think you will be fine Untill u can afford one I will run mine until i can Afford it Good Luck

car battery all the way for me thats all i use and i have had over 30 boats. I get about 4 years out of em and never run out of juice. I tried deep cycle several times and saw no difference, if any i had better luck with car batterys. I got into the habit of using them cause i worked at a car dealer years back and would get used batterys for free, LOL they worked so well i just continued using them.

Gaspard Fishing, what kind of car battery will last 3 years for trolling motor use? Never had one last close to a year, 6 months maybe the norm.

I have used different ones but i got alil more out of ac delco or motorcraft, but the o riely brand will get 3 years for me. they are in my boat as we speak, Lol.

Ive used car batteries only when all else fails and buy a marine trolling battery ASAP for my trolling motor .

I bought a cranking battery this past weekend for my Chevrolet silverado .... $99.99 !! Without tax !! I asked Wth ? Why so high and he says something about the lead in the battery's . They going to lead free batteries in everything and he said one month ago that same battery was $79.00 and the month before that was $69.00. So in two months he's seen the price jump 3 times !

So whatever kind of battery y'all decide to use y'all better hurry up and get one cause if they jump up in price any more I'm be paddling !!

I use the green top interstate brand deep cycle batteries. I just bought a small cranking battery for my motorhome. It cost me the same. So, if you have a car battery to use already, then by all means you can use it, but if you have to buy one, the cost is pretty close to the same. My deep cycle battery cost $99. My cranking battery cost $89. If you had to buy a new one, you will be better off with a deep cycle battery for your trolling motor. If you got a battery already, use it no matter what it is.

Bought 2 Exide Dual Purpose (deep cycle) batteries from Academy about 2 months ago. They were $65 a piece and they work perfectly for my trolling motor so far. Been on several windy trips and they hold a charge. Can't beat the price either.

They say a marine battery will have longer life due to being deep cycle. However i also have a thirty pound trolling motor and i use car batteries and this is going on third year and they are still going strong. I also keep them plugged to a battery tender between fishing trips
