We have been on the water 8 out of the last 10 days with all good results! The weather has not been acting like summer time but the tuna and snapper have been up their normal activities. As long as we could make the run and have had a little time to fish decent numbers of yellowfin have not been a problem. Our Yellowfin numbers have ranged from 1 fish to leaving them biting at number 10 and have all been weather dependent not due to the bite itself. Pogeys have been the bait of choice and the tuna seem to really like them if you have a good enough livewell to keep them kicking in the bluewater for a reasonable amount of time. Although the fish have been averaging around 40 pounds there have been a few bigger ones including a 92 pounder that we boated on Monday. Due to all of the long tuna runs we have been making there hasn’t been a whole lot of extra time to go out of the way to target the bigger snapper and its been killing me but most of our fish have been in the 8 to 12 pound range. Even at 2 per person if you have 6 limits that’s enough Red snapper to go around especially on top of a mess of tuna. The Mangroves have really been biting also if you have the finesse and extra time to devote to fishing them as well as the Cobia. By the way I never knew you could catch Amberjack in 3000 feet of water while chunking for tuna. I guess it is true that you learn something new everyday. We still have open dates for snapper season so like us on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mule-Team-Charters-LLC/127085911209 to keep up with the fishing or check us out at www.muleteamcharters.com to get info on booking your next trip!
