Transferring EDGE DATA TO A LOWRANCE ELTIE GPS UINT
~ Captain Paul's response to: ~ Rad man68 ~
Yes, it would do. Under no circumstances should you use an existing MicroSD card that has mapping on it. Doing so may injure the map data and make the maps useless.
In order to accomplish the transfer you will need Lowrance’s free data transfer program called GPS DATA MANAGER SIX (GDM-6). It is available as a free download from the Lowrance web site at
http://www.lowrance.com/en/Downloads/GPS-Data-Manager-GDM/
Basically, you place the data you want transferred, it should be a file with a .usr suffix, in a file folder in your computer. Then open the GDM-6 program and using the FILE button Open the .usr data file you saved. It will appear in the GDM program.
The GDM-6 program will also allow you to make your own waypoints and or edit the Edge file by adding or removing some of the waypoint locations.
Any card reader that can be connected to your PC via a USB cable that can accommodate a microSD (microSDHC high capacity cards are
not compatible. ONLY MICROSD memory cards can be used. The Micro cards are sometimes sold with a holder that converts them to a full size Secure Digital (SD) format. This is to accommodata SD card readers.
Once in the GDM program you then under the FILE button, EXPORT the waypoints onto a SPARE MICRO SD data card. You will find it hard to find a 2MB card as technology has progressed to the cards being about 2 to 8 GB size. A 2GB card will be more than what you actually need, but the price should be about $5 to $8.
You use the SAVE DATA FILE AS option to transfer the file to the MicroSD card.
Once doing the transfer, close the GDM-6 program and using the MY COMPUTER program in your PC, read the card drive. It may be shown as a D, E, F or H drive. Access that card reader and verify that the .USR data file is actually on the spare data card.
Once on the MicroSD card, remove the card and place it in your Lowrance GPS unit while the unit is in an OFF mode. Turn the unit on and using the MENU function in the UNIT, transfer the data into the internal memory of your unit. See pages 26 to 30 in the owner’s manual. It is in the MENU under SAVE TO CARD and LOAD FROM CARD functions.
All of these waypoints will appear as overlays on what ever mapping you have in your unit.
All of these instructions are included as a Word document in your Edge order. Also, the Acrobat .pdf file is a handy tool that should be opened and printed. The rough map and all of the data for each waypoint can then be carried aboard your vessel as a backup when under way.

Bump - I'd like to know how to do this as well.
