I use the Humminbird SmartCast with remote sonar, the screen on the watch is small but I like the versatility. It is small enough to not get in the way and besides tethering the sonar to the side of the Kayak I can hook it to a pole and cast it to an area that I want to check out without moving to the spot. Cheap too!

I ended up buying an Eagle FishEasy 245DS portable. It has all the features I need, and it runs on 8 AA batteries. The whole unit is very light even with the batteries. I finally had the chance to test it out yesterday. It worked as expected. I kept it in my lap while paddling. The screen is big enough in such a case, and I had no trouble reading all things on the screen.
