If I was in that club the first phrase I would have banned would be, OLD SCHOOL. I would bet that if you could bring back that group from 1948 they would Slap you for saying OLD SCHOOL. Also just the fact of having a list would have pissed them off. Just Kidding. Those shows are trying to attract younger hunters with all the Drama. The older hunters already watch. Nothing else is worth watching for us older people. I just mute all the Drama. Or just go work in my shed. Soon we will all be women. Just trying to be funny. Doug
The only requirment is to follow stste law. That is 3 bucks and 3 does. Most people would be surprised how people will self regulate what they shoot. In the 'old days' a spike would be shot without a second thought, now, they very rarly get shot. Same goes for small rack bucks. In the past 5 to 6 years, the number and size of our deer has gone up, without all the stress of a bunch of rules and hard feelings. The two main rules we have are, be safe, and have fun. Just what the old folks taught us.
I miss the regular ol La conservationist & sportsman. My mentors I learned from killed deer, they did not ' put the smackdown' on deer.
They took what they needed, and let some go so they could grow. They didn't ' wack em & stack em.'
And they did not participate in contests where your team gets points for a kill. That forces a borderline person to shoot where otherwise he may have let go so can grow.
We called each other on the phone, we didn't say ' hit me up later.'
What seems to be vanishing is the respect for wildlife which is being replaced by this ESPN style competition hunting. It WILL BE the demise of hunting. I try to keep to myself, avoiding the internet modern competition hunting ' team' groups, and avoid the ' holidays' in the woods. I wait for them to go back home and I hunt during the week. I do not like the path that hunting is on.
These guys on TV are just glorified door to door salesmen coming up with a pitch for the product they own or is sponsoring them. Its got to the point it worse than NASCAR on how product placement and slogans are used. If they say it enough on their show it sticks. These new buzz words are just that, useless. Snort..weeze good grief..Code Blue ..come on. Cull buck, kinda devalues the animal. If most of this tuff would be taken off TV we as a grou would be better off. Dont get me started on Big Bill Busby
Funny thing is that in a lot of 'clubs', the only people who are made to follow the rules are the 'newbies'. The last club I was in, (18 years ago), had 'original founders' that did not have to follow rules set forth by the board. One rule was 'can not hunt someone's stand with out their permission'. I built a nice box stand, worked all summer clearing a shooting lane, planted a food plot, put up a feeder, helped others in the club with shooting lanes and plots, built a couple other stands for members. I got to the camp 2 days after opening, and the president of the club was in my stand with a doe on the ground. I said 'I thought we couldnt hunt someones stand without permission?' he said 'that dont apply to me, I am a charter member, i can do what i want.'....That was a $4000 mistake i will never make again.....
I agree with this. I was watching a show called Deer Freaks last night and I couldn't even understand half of what they were talking about. Naming deer and following them on trail cameras for 3 years.
