I saw one while turkey hunting north of easleyville ( 8 miles north of greensburg) on tickfaw river 2 yrs ago. It was so big i thought it was a huge bear . Finally i saw it was a hog of epic porportions. I wouldnt guess at a weight because I have no experience with hogs, but it was large large .
yes i have some owned property that has little wildlife due to its seclusion and islands i brought in rabbits and that have populated well so i want to bring in some hogs aswell i will not bing in deer due to cost, but as far as im trapping my own raccoons and squirrels to bring there aswell. most wildlife was pushed off the property with high tides from katrina its around 10,000 acres of family land
well thats the plan, that they can populate and i can harvest 20-25 a year and not have to pay 100-200 each to go on hunts to shoot them. pork meat on my processing is killing me, we kill 20-30 deer a year on my hunting property, and each time takes 60-90 dollars of just pork to cut it
with great delight, the big sows and such dont appeal to my appetite but 30-60lb hogs that have been eating corn out of a feeder are just as good as any pork ive gotten from a store.
pork you purchase from a store is fed mildewed fruits and vegetables, rotten sweet potatoes, cull carrots from michigan, tablefood slops. i have been to multiple pork farms and seen these materials in the 'troffs' in my opinion anything wild caught or wild killed taste better than farm raised.
im all about trapping and cathing the wild hogs, but if you are wanting them live and then turn them out, dont come looking at mine wanting to buy them because im not selling. that is straight stupid to turn them back out. they are tearing everything up and here you are wanting to catch them and move them. the LDWF should come shut you down wether you are making money or not. i make a decent amount without screwing anyone just by selling them out the pens. you need to grow up and look around at what they are doing to our land hoss!!!!
Max, let your hog dream die. If you want hogs to cut your deer sausage, let me know and I'll fill your freezer. The folks in my club have killed really decent deer in the past consistently, 150 class deer. Hogs came in last year and although the does are still around, it seems all the really nice deer are gone. WILD HOGS ARE THE DEVIL, keep repeating that. THE DEVIL. Please do not purposely raise and release wild hogs. They have a devistating impact on not only the wildlife (ei rabbit nests), but can swim from your island and come to my property or worse into some farmers livelihood. THEY ARE THE DEVIL. With that said, Hogs are good for something. Watching You Tube videos of a guy in a helicopter laying down the law. God's Law.......They are the Devil!
That's a lot of bacon!
