amite river bass
yes i was between freds and i-12 wasnt fishing visable cover just isolated cover with the low water ...i found a few spots with my graph and fished those places thorough...once i got the school started ..it was lights out for a little while , when the bite got slow i started using the drop shot to pick up a few that werent hitting the cranks
they must have been a handful, cuz you look tired and sleepy in the picture.... LOL !
My grandfather used to own a lot of river property below the interstate down to Pires
's dairy farm on 4-H club road. Used to fish that upper strech a lot. Seems like those bass in the clean faster water fight better.
RB
i wouldnt head up there too far ....especially running, there are alot of stumps just below the surface of the water out in the middle of the cut i would definetly idle as much as possible up there but you still can get a long ways up if you have the patients for driving slow they have some good looking flipping structure up on the north end ...if i would have had more current i would have definetly caught more fish i could feel my bait bumping them when i got down to the school even accidently foul hooking 1 or 2...it was just tricky trying to get the school fired up
Hey man, that was a great post...good information. I have fished that area a few times, there were plenty of smaller bass but the big uns were few and far between. Good to see some size. As far as how far up to go towards I-12, I have a 17ft. fiberglass with a 120 and I go up to the big sandbar with ease. I haven't been any further, not sure if that is were yall are talking about.
head north about 3.5 miles just above the big sand bar...i used my lowrance to find the isoladed cover on the drop offs...on the way back i found a few more spots in the deeper coves with good cover that looked like it had tons of fish on it ...but the main key was to find the cover and make cast at different angles to find out just how they wanted it once you found the sweet spot you could catch on consecutive casts....as far as species they catch lrg mouth bass, kentucky spotted bass, sacs, bream, catfish etc all over the river...to get to the freds launch from BR i would take i-12 to hwy 447 (walker south rd, exit 15 towards port vincent)head south on 447 take left at the stop sign and right at the first red light, launch will be on right across the amite river bridge hope this helps if you decide to head that way
were you between Freds and I12?
