Alvin Harper from St Louis and his good friend joined me on the Bluewave. Our first stop after dropping the power pole in 4 ft of water had the trout coming in. Limbo Slice Matrix Shad on a 1/4 oz jig head was working good until the wind picked up and dirtied the water up. We made a few moves only picking away at the trout. Plan B went into motion and the shrimp hit the bottom. The guys....  Read More

How's the trout bite in the sulfur mines? Thinking about taking the kayak out Tuesday, but I don't want to head towards New Orleans.

I e mailed Cap Rod after seeing his video of cleaning Reds and Sheepshead with the knife blade in the reciprocating saw. He told me where he got his but got bored being house bound by Mardi Gras (I'm over it after decades) so this morning I made my own with a pro blade from Restarant Depot. Not too easy as knife steel is harder than a Tide fan's head. Fun though.

Inshore Fishing in Cocodrie / DuLarge in South Central Louisiana
Just hoping someone has some good feedback on putting a light bar on my bay boat. My idea is to mount a light bar to a pole where the front pedestal seat goes to enable me to put up and down easily. Run a plug in up front connected to switch on dash as I know they can be blinding to on coming boats. Anyone know how big I would need, I was thinking about a 42inch version? Thanks for any good....  Read More

Inshore Fishing in Fourchon / Grand Isle in Southeast Louisiana
Tomorrow morning i'm going make a road trip to highway1 around Grand Isle to attempt wade fishing for the first time. I hear this is a pretty time of the year to catch a few along the highway which is blocks the big north winds. Just hoping for ANY recommendations(general locations, approach whether plastic or live, depths to focus on, maybe time frame, anything). Bringing my ol'lady along and....  Read More

Went fishing for Bull Reds and had a surprise pop up. He drug around the Kayak for a bit and was not a happy camper. Thankfully some local crabbers tied me off and had a hatchet. Took about 10 good hits and he was done. Weight was between 70 and 90. Caught a few good bull reds and released them. Just wanted to thank the local crabbers down in the Du. Normally I do not target Gator Gar, but I....  Read More

Fishing in Louisiana
I fish here in the marshes of St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes. The waters I fish are almost always under 10 feet deep. Of course, I need the sonar for locating fish but, I also need a REALLY GOOD picture of bottom structure because I recover sunken logs. We have a small sawmill and sell most of our wood to furniture makers. It has gotten very hard to find any more logs the old fashion....  Read More

Captain Paul - GPS Info in Louisiana
I have a new Lowrance Elite 7 Chirp with Navionics Gold but the detail is not very good. Today I received a new Legend Louisiana Geaux card which has incredible imagery but no depths shown. I note that Standard E-Cards don't seem to have depth either. Isn't there a way to get depths for bayous and bays to show on my Lowranace?

Waterfowl and Duck Hunting in Louisiana
Growing up there was always talk about how the area around lake Maurepas was so great in the late 1970's all the way to late 1980's for waterfowl. My opinion the reason this area fell off the map was because the introduction of Salvania. The Salvania has created a blanket on top of the water and does not let any aquatic vegetation grow, which in return the ducks do not have feed. From above,....  Read More

Guns in Louisiana
I usually run a few cotton swabs with oil and/or bore cleaner through my 30 year old deer rifle after each season. This year, I bought some Hoppe's #9 with copper remover and borecleaner. When I ran it through my .270 BAR, little flecks of metal kept coming out after many passes with swabs.
Is this just stuff coming out of the grooves and is a good thing, or are they symptomatic of a more....  Read More

Deer Hunting in Southeast Louisiana
Photo Album
After several years of disappointing Duck Hunting, I've began to deer hunt (try). I have a 2 Arpent wide by several hundred yards long of what I call floating marsh grass. I see plenty of signs of deer along the canal that borders the marsh. I'm 150 pounds and I can barely get through the marsh with out sinking. I have a few questions to ask you fine Gents. Do you think the soft, flooded marsh....  Read More
