Thanks for the advice guys! I decided to go with a 30-06 A Bolt Stainless Stalker wiyhout the BOSS. I found a new one (was bought 4 years ago but never fired)on Gun Broker for $785 shipped........
I think people like the Steer Choupic and his cheering section are the 'ONES' at every club people complain about..........I am GLAD that I am not infected with the greed & ignorance you are blessed with!
Let me start by saying I emailed the people that started the post and thanked them for being kind enough to help the dog find a owner, old or new.
Once again you 'assumed' I don't still hunt, wrong again. I like it very well in fact. I bow, primitive weapon, still hunt, & dog hunt. I have dog hunted for almost 30 years. In this time I have never seen dogs catch or kill a deer. I have seen them bay crippled or wounded deer. Either way the animal was recovered. Deer that had been hit by vehicles, shot with bows or guns, and deer with diseases.
That being cleared up now, you are bashing something that you really aren't fluent in. I can't make you like dog hunting, and I'm not trying to. Just make sure you cover all the angles...make sure you go after rabbit hunters & their beagels, bird hunters and their pointers, coon hunters and their tree dogs, hog hunters and their catch dogs (the poor little pigs tongues hang out also &cthey even sqeal!), the duck hunters and their retrivers (swimming in all that cold water), and don't forget falconry they use birds to kill all sorts of things. They use their claws to catch their prey, then their beaks to kill it.
You like to still hunt and thats fine. Your methond of take is really bushwacking a deer thats either hungry and only looking for something to eat or that is trying to reproduce. I'm just calling it what it is........You think its 'sporting' to shoot a animal doing the 2 things I mentioned above. I respect that, I do it as well.
My outlook on this 'sporting part'... When I jump a deer with dogs that I feed and take care of every day, rain or shine, all year long is 'sporting'. When I jump that deer, he without a shadow of a doubt, knows he is the quarry. When I kill him with a 'RIFLE', I am proud of all the work, time, effort, and 'SKILL'........I once again want to apoligize. This post shouldn't have ever went where it was taken. I felt the need to take up for something I love! My last comment as well. Peace/Out
It just boils my blood that the anti dog hunters jump at every chance they get to blame a dog hunter for any & everything! You have these still hunters that are experts on everything outdoors because they watch the outdoor channel. This tuffhuntin 'sportsmen' prolly has never owned a hound or had to put up with the junk I have had to, to be able to hunt the way my family has since Louisiana has had settlers........
Possibly be a hog dog, some people use them. Could possibly be a Treeing Walker coon dog. COULD POSSIBLY BE A STILL HUNTER, LIKE YOU PULLED HIS COLLAR OFF! Automatically the dog hunter was the first to be blamed. PETA love 'hunters' like you. Good luck finding him his owner or a new owner..........
Go look on gunbroker.com. Don't bid on the first thing you find. If you find a gun, set up a account and either bid or use the 'buy now' option if its available. The next step if find someone that has a FFL (pawn shop, gun store, etc) then get the license holder to do their part. It will cost you usually about $35 dollars for shippping but on a Browning you will save aboout $100-$175 on tax........
I didn't read all the post, but I did read some. This is my 2 cents........I think it is the doe season. I read one comment that said they killed does for 13 years with no decline in population. Then the last 2 they have. I think this being that everyone, anywhere, can shoot a doe is all adding up. Its starting to affect you now as the deer numbers aren't there. These tags ONLY KEEP THE HONEST HUNTERS HONEST! I've seen it. On one club that I have been a member of for almost 20 years, we didn't shoot fox or coyote because people ran them with Walker dogs. We had plenty
'Predators' but it was also common to see 10-20 different deer a day. I seen 5 deer in the past 2 hunting seasons on this same club, and the coyote & fox rule was terminated about 7 years ago. The reason is all the does are dead & in the freezers. I have a question to throw out there......If the 'doe season' we have is so great then why don't places like Tensas and Red River have the same rules as the area does outside the WMA?

Do you think one of these is the one you heard crowing?
I hear soooo much of that negativity about airboats! TEll me, how does it 'damage' the swamp? I can ride one all over my lawn and it doesn't hurt it.....
Good Luck on the hunt & lotto! From my experience with kids turkey hunting..... I wouldn't try to 'choke' the gun & load down too much. It would be like shooting a moving beer can with a BB gun. Remember shooting a target and shooting a strutting, gobbling, wild turkey is WAY different! Pattern the 20 gauge at 30 yards with some good loads and see what it does. From my experience a 20 gauge 870 tend to shoot Winchester Supreme #6's, Winchester Extended Range #6's, Hevi Shot #6's, or Hevi Shot Blend (#5,6,&71/2's)the best. You should shoot it and figure out which recipe it digests the best and let the little guy shoot some 2 3/4 stuff for practice at 20 yards. Ground Blinds work well with kids also... It ya got any other questions give me a holla. Hope it goes well for yall!
I looked that up, & thanks for the link, but it says 2 different things. 'Average' range says almost 12 inches at 300 & 'Long' range says about 8 inches at 300 yards. Both being sighted in at 1.5 high at 100 yards. ????

Do you want some Cheese with that Wine?
Thanks Poppin Cork!
If anyone has any information on the Silver Creek Hunting Club that Poppin Cork mentioned, I would appreciate it. Thanks
