Our Brand New 5,800 Sq Ft Lodge

Louisiana Outfitters L.L.C.
Quick update from Southwest Louisiana. The ducks have been slow this week; the Teal shooting from the weekend did not stretch into this week. I had eight ducks yesterday morning. Mostly in the first 10 minutes. The duck situation should improve with opening of Arkansas waterfowl season Saturday. I have talked with a few hunters up there and they are loaded with ducks. When they start to put gun pressure on them this weekend, that should push lots of ducks down our way. Fortunately, we are still killing Specks consistently! With more moving into our properties the last few days. All 14 blinds rested this morning. We are booked for Saturday, but we do have openings for up to nine hunters Satur ..... Read More

Fishing under the birds
I came in from offshore & decided to hit the lake with a friend of mine yesterday morning. We launched @ Calcasiu Point @ 6AM. We headed straight to Turners Bay. There were hundreds of birds feeding on shrimp. The birds were working really good until 7:20 or so. They just quit all of the sudden, not sure why. We hit a few different spots but nothing produced any fish. We found a few flocks of birds here & there throughout the lake. The total for the day was 19 specks & 2 reds. We tagged & released 11 more reds including a 20 lb. bull red that was 37 inches long! I caught all my fish on opening night sand eel jrs. My buddy was throwing a margarita sand eel jr. Here are a few pics from yeste ..... Read More

ducks...
Made a quick duck hunting trip this morning in the pecan island area. After shooting all teal last weekend and barely seeing any big ducks, today from about 730 to 900 they had plenty of big ducks flying around. Actually saw quite a few greenheads, and lots of migrating blues and snows up high!!!!

Deer Hunting Calcasieu River in Southwest Louisiana

Weight, score, and age please??
Weight, score, and age of deer please. I see this posted a lot. Don't get me wrong, I like seeing others' game camera pictures as much as anyone else, but how is someone suppose to guess all of this by a picture of a buck, I mean seriously? I'm not trying to be rude but it just seems silly to me. The deer in the picture it is just that, a ninja ghost, until you harvest it of course. NOW, once you havest that nice buck in the picture, it's a different story, but until then it will just have to be a nice buck. Does anyone else feel this way or am I the only one?

Kick and shoot
Anyone ever been on one of those kick and shoot quail/phesant/chuckar hunts at Bin There Hunting? (Not the tower shoot). Is it anything like a real wingshoot? Thinking about taking some clients on a morning duck/goose hunt and an afternoon quail hunt and just wanted to get thoughts/opinions.

9 point  4 Wheeler Workout

9 Point
A couple of Fridays ago I got the chance to experience one of gods greatest blessings. I harvested my first mature whitetail buck, a solid 155lb 9 point...I hope everyone that spends the time in woods gets the opportunity to harvest a mature buck, it was such an amazing experience. In memory of Bambi's Grandfather I have attached the obituary for him….. -Funeral Services for Bambi’s Grandfather (a.k.a. Mr. Big em’) was held this past Friday afternoon when he was struck by a 30-06 Winchester Ballistic Tip bullet. Visitation was held Saturday morning when his 155lbs body and solid nine point rack was recovered. Mr. Big em’ descendants include Mrs. Big em’ currently know as bambi’s ..... Read More

4 young boys knock'em out the sky...
These four young men shot 24 ducks (Greys, widgeon, teal and 2 spoons) on opening day in the west, south of Hwy 82... We had gadwalls and widgeon working the decoys all morning... if we could have kept'em (the boys) down, they would have finished before sunrise. They competed in the blind with only two shooters at a time and finished up in a tie with equal birds for each team... A great hunt, a great lifetime memory for them and myself. Sunday was just the same... not as many teal in the area as usual and all of the black mallards (local model duck) have moved out since teal season...

Hunting Scrapes
I would like to get some of your opinions on hunting scrapes. I have recently found some scrapes that the buck is working often. Do you guys think using other buck scents in his scrape would get him coming to check it more than he is? Or would it be better to use estrous scent in it? Just looking for opinions...

how old? taken by takemking taken by takemking

Is he too young?
So I have this 4 point that keeps showing up. I think he is only 2 years old but I'm not the best at judging a deer's age. Can anyone tell me if I'm right or wrong? Don't want to take him too soon.

Louisiana Outfitters
Update from the rice belt of Southwest Louisiana. We opened the 2009-2010 season with a bang! We had our first guests in our brand new lodge (pics to come in the next day or two) . Over the course of Saturday and today we had seven groups out hunting. Our hunters shot a total of 102 ducks and 14 specks, 1 snow, 1 blue. The prominent ducks were teal, with a few Grays and Pintail mixed in. The Speck hunting will gradually get better through the season, plus a few more big ducks will be added to the bags! We have openings November 18th,19th as well as the 21rst and 22nd. We have great lodging and excellent meals, we also offer onsite skeet shooting just steps from the back porch. For more i ..... Big Lake
Hit Big Lake yesterday with hopes of catching large numbers of specs........ended up with ONE spec. Not one group of birds working, we were off the water by 2. Don't know w hat the deal was, east wind wasn't too bad. I dunno, maybe too much fresh water? Oh well, it's fishing, not catching.
