Deer Hunting Lake Pontchartrain / Northshore in Southeast Louisiana

Swamp Hunting
Got some swamppy woods behind my house and have seen alot of deer and a nice 8 point. Wondering if it was worth making a little 20x20 yard rye and clover plot. I dont really know what there eating and where there eating any tips would be appreciated.

"Jealous Of My Wife's Rack"
Last year was my wife's first year hunting. She had missed two deer and didn't kill at all last year. This year, I killed 2 does and a spike within the first 2 weeks of hunting. I wanted her to kill her first deer SOON! But not an Eight Point Buck! Needless to say I have been hunting for about 40 years and still haven't killed anything bigger than a six point. If I don't kill something bigger this year! I will have to look at Her Deer on My Wall for a year before I will have a chance to kill one that might be bigger than hers. So, I guess the question is "Does Size Really Matter"? LMAO!.!,! LMAO!

Nice 8 point down
My buddy, Nelson Dupre, called me at 6:50 am this morning while I was at work. He was breathing very heavily and I wasn't even sure who,it was. He said, "this is Nelson!" I asked him what was going on. He said, "I just shot a big 8 point buck and I'm dragging him out!" He was some excited. He said the spread looked to be about 19 inches and the body weight was probably 180 lbs. He said the big buck was walking down his shooting lane right towards him at first light. He had to put the scope on him to see the antlers. He fired and the buck ran into the woods, but then back towards him and he heard him go down. Nelson hunts on his personal lease west of Alexandria. He won't be back to work unti ..... Read More

Having A "GREAT YEAR "
Club is having a Great Year!! We have 22 deer killed so far this year. There's nothing like sitting by the campfire at night with the smell of hot food in the air and listening to all those tall tales with your family and friends.

Sammy Burks' 187-inch typical Missouri buck

Biggest Missouri buck this year
Missouri buddy Sammy Burks knocked down this monster buck Wednesday just a few miles from the Kansas state line. The mainframe 10-point (12 points total) was green scored at 187 3/4 B&C typical by a state biologist, who said it currently ranks as the years largest typical buck killed. If that score stands it would rank as the eighth largest typical buck ever killed in the state with a gun, according to MissouriWhitetails.com. Burks shot the deer at 150 yards after it ran out of a thicket chasing a doe. The buck aged out at only 4 1/2 years and weighed only 171 pounds.

Whats your favorite buck attractant??
Just wondering about everyone else's opinion on what the best buck attractants are, started to say lure, but have read enough posts on here to know that that would have gotten any number of "rattle trap" type responses. I use golden estrus and tinks 69. Was just trying to get some other thoughts.

No. 2 for Hoss
Well my (excuse me, our) Half lab half bloodhound made his second find. This time he saved my butt. I made a bad shot on a doe with my .45-70 and Hoss saved the day. The shot was low and a little back. Only found white hair and a little "gut stuff" where the deer was shot, not a drop of blood. Gave the deer 3 hours and put Hoss on it. After about 200 yards heard him baying. The deer was next to the root ball of an up-rooted oak tree, standing looking at him. One more shot and it was over. Not exactly a text book kill, but fun anyway.

Youth hunt over....BUT........
Well, one of the kids that was not succesful for the youth hunt in area 2, gave it another shot this past weekend. Blake Thibeaux came back to North Louisiana and brought along his dad (Matt), and his grandfather (Steve). All three generations that had never killed a deer. Blake and his dad were both succesful Saturday afternoon, which got them a good blood bath! Sunday morning we tried hard to get one for grandfather, but the deer gods just didn't see it our way. Maybe next time Steve? All together we had a great weekend. Spend some time in the woods with a kid! It will make your deer season better. Good luck!

Rice Bran
I have alot of hogs were I hunt and was wondering how much luck has hunters had with rice bran.I know I can't put corn out for deer because the hogs will get to it first. How long does it take for deer to find it? Does hogs eat it? How long does it take for it to spoil if deer doesn't find it.

Lucked up on a Good'un!
Well Folks, At 6:56am on Nov 12th it all came together! The big boy came by trailing a doe that had got ahead of him and out of his sight. I grunted him in and shot him at 15 yards! He bolted back the direction he came from. After a 70 yards dash he stopped and looked back, then tipped over! What A Feeling! I nearly passed out! I was in North Central Kansas on private land I have permission to hunt in Washington County.

Weight, score, and age please??
Weight, score, and age of deer please. I see this posted a lot. Don't get me wrong, I like seeing others' game camera pictures as much as anyone else, but how is someone suppose to guess all of this by a picture of a buck, I mean seriously? I'm not trying to be rude but it just seems silly to me. The deer in the picture it is just that, a ninja ghost, until you harvest it of course. NOW, once you havest that nice buck in the picture, it's a different story, but until then it will just have to be a nice buck. Does anyone else feel this way or am I the only one?
