More Encouragement
Age and score? Who cares! I know he's out there. I poured out a bottle of Deer Cane on the ground. My stand is about 10 yards or so to the right, just off camera. Just a matter of time. With a little luck and a silent prayer, zzzzzipp THWAACCKK!!! Carbon Express right through the side. Come on, come on...

Opening Weekend
Opening weekend on our lease was pretty good. 3 hunters, 2 hunts (Sat and Sun morning)= 36 gadwall. I was happy as hell outright, then, after reading posts and talking to people, I was ecstatic. We didn't see hardly any birds, but almost everything we saw, tried to get in on us. Their mistake.

How does WLF count ducks?
I just read that article on the LAS homepage about Louisiana's duck count for 2009 and it got me thinking... How do they count all those ducks? I just imagine a Farside sketch of WLF Agents standing at LA's borders going "There's a duck... there's a duck... That was 3 ducks, Frank, did you get those? There's a duck..." Please someone tell me there's not actually someone out in the field clicking a counter that goes up to 1.5 million... Haha. You kow you've wondered this too!

Why does the LDWF insist on such an early season?
I know the framework is set for so many years until the LDWF can change it again, but maybe the LDWF commissioners will listen to the duck hunters the next time they modify the structure of the seasons.
I have preached this for years. I sure would like to see duck season open the Saturday before Thanksgiving and let it close on the last weekend of January for both zones. I know duck season cannot extend into February, but our season in the west zone is opening way too early and closes too early in January.
Is it even necessary to have zones? And if we do have zones, shouldn't they be North and South and not East and West? The only valid excuse I hear for why the West Zone opens ..... Read More

"Jealous Of My Wife's Rack"
Last year was my wife's first year hunting. She had missed two deer and didn't kill at all last year. This year, I killed 2 does and a spike within the first 2 weeks of hunting. I wanted her to kill her first deer SOON! But not an Eight Point Buck! Needless to say I have been hunting for about 40 years and still haven't killed anything bigger than a six point.
If I don't kill something bigger this year! I will have to look at Her Deer on My Wall for a year before I will have a chance to kill one that might be bigger than hers.
So, I guess the question is "Does Size Really Matter"?
LMAO!.!,!

Atchafalaya Delta bow season
Well guys, my bow season so for has been rather slow. I was fortunate enough to take a nice 8 point on Oct 12th but before and after that day, the deer sightings have been few for me. I am hunting at a lot of different locations on both the perimeter islands and the Big Island. Other guys tell me they are seeing deer and I know of 9, 10, 11 and 13 point bucks all killed recently. I have passed on a few deer and had some more that I would have taken (namely one beautiful 8 point buck) that have not given me the opportunity for the shot. I checked my journal from last year and after the same amount of days hunted we had seen 47 deer and 25 hogs. This season those numbers are 20 and zero. Qui ..... Read More

Someone has offered me a trade of a .17 HMR for a bow.
I have the bow.
I hunt up around the Bogulusa area and there are plenty rabbits and things, but what else can I really use a .17 HMR for?
Also, anyone know of any land around Houma that I can help on to possibly hunt rabbits/hogs/deer?

Nice 8 point down
My buddy, Nelson Dupre, called me at 6:50 am this morning while I was at work. He was breathing very heavily and I wasn't even sure who,it was. He said, "this is Nelson!" I asked him what was going on. He said, "I just shot a big 8 point buck and I'm dragging him out!" He was some excited. He said the spread looked to be about 19 inches and the body weight was probably 180 lbs. He said the big buck was walking down his shooting lane right towards him at first light. He had to put the scope on him to see the antlers. He fired and the buck ran into the woods, but then back towards him and he heard him go down. Nelson hunts on his personal lease west of Alexandria. He won't be back to work unti ..... Read More

Cat Island NWR
Hey guys,
Let me just start off by saying that I'm 17 years old, and looking for some public land to hunt ducks on. I don't have a boat, I do own an ATV though. Seeing that I'm located in Denham Springs, I was thinking about Cat Island NWR. Are there more than just Wood Ducks? If you guys have any advice to help a new duck hunter out, it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Ryne

Dogs and Bell's Palsy
Anybody ever seen a dog with Bell's Palsy? If so, did it overcome it? My dog was diagnosed with it.
I thought his season was shot b/c of it. I worked with my dog yesterday throwing dummies and he was very energetic and in good spirits. He is getting older at age 9 so I must take it easy on him. He definitely has lost most vision (if not all) in his right eye from the Bell's Palsy. When I cover his left eye and wave my hand in front of his right eye he does not blink. If I throw a dummy to the his right eye only, he will not see it. Plus the vet said he is having vision problems with that eye.
Here are some pics of what the Bell's Palsy has done. The muscle and nerves above his righ ..... Read More

HUNTER SEEKING NEW JOB
Because of starting a new job; I haven’t been able to bow hunt since opening weekend. I have come to the conclusion that work interferes with my hunting schedule way too often. So if there is anyone out there willing to pay me to hunt, just let me know. Finally, this weekend, I get to return to my favorite WMA. Can’t wait! Anyway…..here are a couple of pictures from opening weekend. On the way to my stand I saw this sow with 8 little ones. I didn’t have time to climb a tree, put my jacket on, and barely had time to get my stand off my back. I had a muzzy in my quiver screaming to chew on some pork. So I nocked one and let’er fly. I could hear the shouts of joy coming from the muzzy as it ..... Read More
