Anyone born on or after Sept. 1, 1969, must successfully complete a hunter education course before purchasing hunting licenses. All 50 states require some form of mandatory hunter education, with some requiring certification by all hunters regardless of age.

Louisiana provides hunter education courses free of charge. Participants can choose from a standard two-day course, or they can do the written course work on the Internet before attending a single field day.
