Baton Rouge teen wins Ride the Bull VII

Miller’s 34.56-pounder good enough for top prize

More than 130 bulls were caught Saturday in Caminada Pass, but only one took home the top prize in the Ride the Bull VII Kayak Fishing Tournament on Grand Isle.

Brock Miller, 16, of Baton Rouge, reeled in a 34.56-pounder good enough for first place and a new Wilderness Systems kayak, along with $3,000 in cash and a crystal redfish plaque.

More than 600 anglers registered for the event, and 545 boats eased into Caminada Pass at the 7:30 a.m. shotgun start from Bridge Side Marina and Wake Side Marina.

Bull red action was hectic, and it took a 28-pounder just to crack into the Top 10.

Here are the official results:

1. Brock Miller 34.56

3. Elby Champagne 32.38
