Fall shrimp season opening dates announced

Opening day is Aug. 15 east of the Atchafalaya River, Aug 22 for western half of coast

The 2016 fall shrimp season from the Atchafalaya River Ship Channel buoy line eastward to the Mississippi/Louisiana state line will kick off at 6 p.m. next Monday, Aug. 15, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

That portion of state inside waters from the Atchafalaya River Ship Channel buoy line westward to the Louisiana/Texas state line will open the following week, on Monday, Aug. 22, the release states.

Season dates were announced last week in Baton Rouge at the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission meeting.
