A 65-year-old Dry Prong man died Saturday morning when the boat he was fishing in was struck by another vessel in a bend in the Cane River, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

William R. Morrison was ejected into the water and died in the accident, which happened about 7:20 a.m., according to a news release.

A boat driven by Shannon Mctire, 39, came around a bend in the river and hit Morrison’s stationary boat in the bow, knocking the man into the river. A passenger in Morrison’s boat, Teresa  Halbert, wasn’t seriously injured in the accident, the release states.

Mctire immediately stopped his boat and jumped in the water to assist Morrison, who had been fishing in the bow of the boat. Morrison was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

Charges are pending in the case, but alcohol was not a factor in the accident, the release states.
