22nd ASA Fishing Rodeo slated for Sunday, June 12

Fishing starts at sunrise, scales open from 12 to 2 at Breton Sound Marina

The 22nd annual ASA Fishing Rodeo — which raises funds for students seeking a degree in Motor Vehicle Technology at Delgado Community College — will be held this Sunday, June 12 out of Breton Sound Marina.

Registration is $45 and anglers will still be able to register from 5 to 8 a.m. Sunday morning at the Breton Sound Marina boat launch. Fishing begins at sunrise with no territorial limitations, and weigh-in will be held from 12 to 2 at the marina, which is located at 7600 Hopedale Highway.

Pre-registered anglers can pick up their entry packets Wednesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Academy Sports in Elmwood Shopping Mall, located at 800 S. Clearview Parkway in Harahan.

Rodeo divisions include speckled trout, redfish, bull reds, bass, flounder, black drum, sheepshead and the President’s Award.

The first 30 registered kids 12 and under to weigh a fish on Sunday receive a free fishing pole courtesy of Coastal Conservation Association-Louisiana.

The Greater New Orleans Affiliate of the Automotive Service Association will award two $500 scholarships per spring and fall semesters to students currently enrolled in Delgado’s Motor Vehicle Technology curriculum.
