Fifty-one streams, bayous, branches and small rivers in Louisiana have been declared part of the Natural and Scenic Rivers System.
All told, they include more than 1,300 miles of waterways.
A natural and scenic river is defined by law as a river, stream or bayou that is in a free-flowing condition and has not been channelized, cleared or snagged within the past 25 years.
Scenic rivers in Central Louisiana include Bayou Cocodrie in Concordia and in Evangeline parishes, Bayou Kisatchie, Big Creek, Calcasieu River, Fish Creek, Little River, Pearl Creek, Saline Bayou, Six Mile Creek, Spring Creek, Ten Mile Creek and Whiskey Chitto Creek.
