Mike Wood not done yet

Mike Wood isn’t putting all the decades of knowledge he has gained on a shelf. He has opened a consulting business to help owners of smaller, private waters manage their resources properly.

“My role is essentially as an advisor,” Wood said. “I assess what people have and make recommendations about fish populations, water quality and structure.

“If they need some other services, I can put them in touch with the right people so that they don’t spend a lot of money doing things they don’t really need.”

One of the biggest mistakes people make with smaller ponds and lakes is stocking fish when they aren’t needed or setting slot limits or other self-imposed rules that don’t help the fishing and, in some cases, hurt their fish populations, Wood said.
