Freshwater lure that produces Hopedale reds and specks

Flukes and weightless stick baits are extremely popular on the bass circuit. That’s because they produce not only big fish but numbers of fish, as well.

This bass technique is something Capt. Charlie Thomason utilizes frequently on his trips.

If you’re not a fan of fishing hard-plastics and corks on the shallow flats, this style of fishing can put some big fish in your boat.

“A lot of times I will weedless-hook a straight-tail shad with no weight on it, throw it out, twitch it and let it fall,” Thomason said. “That is really productive this time of year, too.”

Thomason also ties a certain knot to the bait that gives it extra action.

“That loop knot is a good one to tie on that straight-tail shad because that thing can fall and flutter really naturally,” he said.
