Arkansas man cited for hunting license fraud in Claiborne Parish

Perkins allegedly hunted with Louisiana resident license on Kisatchie National Forest, LDWF says

Agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries cited an Arkansas man on Jan. 7 for allegedly obtaining a hunting license by fraud in Claiborne Parish.

James Perkins, 42, of Emerson, Ark., was cited for obtaining a Louisiana resident hunting license by fraud, hunting without a non-resident hunting license and possessing an unplugged shotgun that held five shells.

Agents conducted a license compliance check on Perkins when they observed him returning from hunting on Kisatchie National Forest in Claiborne Parish, according to a release.

That check revealed Perkins was an Arkansas resident who was in possession of a Louisiana resident hunting license, the release states.

Further investigation revealed that Perkins’ 12-gauge shotgun held five shells.

It is illegal to possess a shotgun that is capable of holding more than three shells during hunting season.  Plugs are to be used if a shotgun can hold more than three shells, the release states.

Penalties for obtaining a license by fraud will be set at a later date by a presiding judge.  Hunting with an unplugged gun carries a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail.  Hunting without a non-resident hunting license carries a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail, the release states.
