Franklinton youth shot, killed by father during Mississippi deer hunt

Officials investigating fatal Delta National Forest shooting

A 16-year-old Franklinton deer hunter was reportedly shot and killed by his father during a New Year’s Eve trip to the Delta National Forest in Mississippi, and state officials are investigating the incident.

Cayle Mitchell Taylor reportedly died from a gunshot wound about 7:45 a.m. Issaquena County coroner Angela Easton said the incident will likely be ruled an accident, although Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks officials are still investigating.

This was one of two deaths reported at the national forest over the holiday. In the second incident, a duck hunter reportedly drowned.
