200-inch monster goes down in Mississippi

Harrell’s 15-pointer possibly biggest ever in Scott County

Eddie Harrell’s four-year pursuit of a monstrous Mississippi whitetail nearly came to a disastrous conclusion last season, when he nicked the big buck in the leg from 350 yards only two days before the season ended.

“I prayed that I didn’t kill the deer last year,” Harrell said. “I finally spotted him on my game camera again, and was relieved to see that he survived.

“I was just hoping that he’d make it through another year.”

The 12-pointer last season blossomed into a full-blown 15-point, 200-inch trophy this year, and Harrell finally crossed paths with the big buck again on the afternoon of Dec. 1 in Scott County, Miss.

“At 4:20, two does came out and I noticed that they kept looking back into the woods,” he said. “I hoped a buck was following them but didn’t know for sure.”

Harrell didn’t have to wait long to find out.
