LDWF plans drawdown for Saline Lake starting Nov. 19

Water level to be dropped 8 feet below pool stage to control giant salvinia

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has scheduled a drawdown for Saline Lake starting Thursday to control giant salvinia.

The control structure for the lake will be closed once the water level reaches 2 feet below pool stage, but will be reopened on Dec. 7 until the lake ultimately reaches 8 feet below pool stage, according to a news release.

Although the lake, which is in Natchitoches and Winn parishes, will not be closed to fishing, boaters are advised to use caution during the low water period as boat lanes will not provide normal clearances for underwater obstructions.

The date of completion of the drawdown will not be announced until an assessment of aquatic vegetation on the lake is done, the release states.
