Greenwell Springs man cited for baiting deer on Sherburne WMA

St. Pierre accused of spreading corn and littering, LDWF says

Enforcement agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries cited an 18-year-old Greenwell Springs man Saturday for allegedly baiting deer and littering on Sherburne Wildlife Management Area in Pointe Coupee Parish.

Richard J. St. Pierre was ticketed for baiting deer and intentional littering in connection with an investigation that began on Aug. 1, when agents found an empty 50-pound bag of corn on the WMA.

According to a news release, agents documented bait being placed on four other dates since early August, along with empty corn bags and fast food containers.

On Saturday, agents allegedly observed St. Pierre in the act of placing the bait and littering at the previously discovered locations.

Placing bait on a WMA brings a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail.  Intentional littering carries up to a $500 fine and eight hours of community service in a litter abatement work program as approved by the court, the release states.
