‘Clean Out Your Freezer Day’ set for Sunday, Sept. 27

Hunters encouraged to donate extra frozen fish and game to benefit food banks

In advance of the fall hunting seasons, Hunters for the Hungry is once again hosting its annual ‘Clean Out Your Freezer Day” this coming Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. to benefit food banks and pantries across the state.

Hunters and anglers are encouraged to share surplus frozen fish and game — except for feral hog — while cleaning out their freezers in preparation for this fall’s seasons.

In past years, the organization has collected more than 230,000 pounds of protein, which is distributed to those in need through partnerships with about 400 agencies across the state.

Non-hunters also can donate any frozen food or protein. All donations must be labeled and dated.

Food items will be accepted from 1 to 4 Sunday afternoon in East Baton Rouge, Ascension, East Feliciana, Livingston, West Feliciana and West Baton Rouge parishes, and all donors will be eligible to win a Thompson Center Venture .270 with a Nikon scope donated by the South Louisiana QDMA.
