A bass tournament benefitting families and coworkers of police officers killed in the line of duty will be held next month out of Red River South Marina in Bossier City.
The Louisiana State Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors will host its inaugural Fallen Officers Memorial Invitational Bass Tournament Sept. 17-19, with proceeds offsetting the ongoing costs faced by families and co-workers who have suffered from line-of-duty deaths in law enforcement.
“We’ve had more than 60 boats register to date, and we’ll be accepting registrations at Red River South Marina until 5 p.m. on Sept. 17, as well,” Harry Watson, event organizer, said.
The tournament, initially scheduled to take place in March, has been postponed twice due to conditions on the Red River this spring. Team registration is now open and can be accessed by clicking here.
This family-friendly event is open to the general public as well as the families of law enforcement, their friends, neighbors, extended family and business associates.
Some local jurisdictions will provide law enforcement awareness programs and demonstrations during the event, and there will be activities for spectators to enjoy, including kid-friendly contests like a fishing tank, a dunk tank and balloon burst on Friday and Saturday. There will also be a special memorial program honoring fallen officers on Friday morning at 5 a.m.
“On that Friday morning when the anglers take off, we’ll have about 70 memorial flags with fallen officers’ names on them displayed,” Watson said, adding that there will also be a memorial flyover by regional police helicopters.
Registration fees are $200 per two-man team and registration is limited to the first 300 boats.
