Kearney allegedly shot turkey from road near Ringgold, LDWF says
Three men were cited by enforcement agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries this weekend for alleged closed season turkey violations in Bienville Parish.
According to a news release, James Kearney, 29, of Ringgold, Daniel Hollis, 25, of Arcadia and Michael Foster, 51, of Sibley all were cited for hunting from a public road. Kearney was cited for taking a turkey illegally during a closed season and both Hollis and Foster were ticketed for possession of an illegally taken turkey.
An anonymous tip led agents to Hollis’ house, where the two men admitted to being in a truck with Kearney when he allegedly shot a turkey from Pietsch Road near Ringgold on Aug. 15. The two men told LDWF the turkey was still in an ice chest in Hollis’ front yard, the release states.
Taking turkey during a closed season brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Possession of an illegally taken turkey carries a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail, and hunting from a public road brings a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail, the release states.
The turkey season for Bienville Parish ended in late April and won’t reopen again until March 26, 2016.
