Two Lafitte men arrested for alleged crab trap thefts, LDWF says

Rogers, Perez accused of cutting off corks, replacing with their own in Bay Round

Enforcement agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries arrested two men for allegedly stealing crab traps in Plaquemines Parish, according to a news release.

Shane Rogers, 32, and Terryl Perez, 27, both of Lafitte, were arrested Tuesday for theft of crab traps, illegal removal of crab trap contents, harassment of legal fishermen and intentional littering, the release states.

Agents were reportedly shown pictures of the two men cutting the corks off crab traps in the Bay Round area. The men would replace the cut corks with their own and then throw the owners’ corks into the water, according to the release.

During questioning, the men admitted to cutting off the corks of other fisherman, the news release states. Warrants were secured, and Rogers and Perez were booked into the Jefferson Parish Jail before being transported to Plaquemines Parish.

Theft of crab traps and illegal removal of contents of crab traps carries up to a $950 fine and 120 days in jail for each offense.  Harassment of a person lawfully fishing carries up to a $350 fine and 60 days in jail, the release states.
