Matens also reappointed to second term
Effective next month, Ed Swindell will represent Louisiana as one of the 17 voting members of the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council.
According to a press release, the Secretary of Commerce recently appointed Swindell and reappointed three returning council members, including another Louisiana member, Camp Matens of Baton Rouge.
Swindell will join the Council on Aug. 11, the release states.
Swindell, of Hammond, is no stranger to fishery management — he previously served on the Gulf Council in the 70s, and spent nearly 40 years in the menhaden industry.
Recently, he was a member of the Council’s Coastal Migratory Pelagics and Red Drum Advisory Panels, and also served on the Recreational Fisheries Advisory Panel of the Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission and the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission.
The two other members who were reappointed are Dale Diaz of Mississippi and Capt. Johnny Greene of Alabama.
Swindell is replacing Harlon Pearce, of Kenner, whose served on the council since 2006 as an at-large member representing the commercial sector.
