Authorities recover body in Bayou Marron after canoe capsizes

Accident happened during frogging trip, LDWF says

Search and rescue teams with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of a 58-year-old man in Bayou Marron late Monday afternoon.

According to a press release, authorities were notified about 3 p.m. of someone who had fallen out of a capsized canoe, and the body of Lawrence Fontenot of St. Landry Parish was recovered about 5:45 p.m.

According to the other man in the canoe, they were frogging near Chatagnier when the canoe capsized, and the survivor was able to make his way to shore and call for help.

Neither man was wearing a personal flotation device when the accident occurred, the release states.
