Union WMA to close permanently on Tuesday

Plum Creek Timber Company plans to offer recreational hunting leases on property in Union Parish, LDWF says

Union Wildlife Management Area will no longer be part of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries WMA program effective on July 1, according to a news release.

LDWF has decided to conclude the long-term lease for the site — 11,192 acres in Union Parish west of Marion — with the Plum Creek Timber Company.

“LDWF will continue to pursue opportunities on properties that facilitate wildlife habitat management while providing quality outdoor recreation options for the public,” Steve Smith, LDWF WMA program manager, said in the release. “Those resources previously utilized on this area will be redirected in a manner through which they can be best utilized within the WMA system for conservation and public use.”

Plum Creek will now offer the acreage for lease to individuals or hunting clubs, the release states. For more information about recreational leasing opportunities there, click here.
