Don’t forget to buy 2015-16 fishing licenses

With the weather finally (hopefully) starting to stabilize enough to allow you to get out and experience the great fishing opportunities around the state, don’t get so caught up in the preparation and planning that you forget to buy your 2015-16 fishing license.

Yep, it’s that time of year. The fishing license that has been riding around in your wallet since last year expires June 30.

Purchasing a license is pretty easy these days — instead of having to drive to your local Walmart or bait shop, you can just log onto the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ website and make the purchase right from the comfort of your desk.

And the folks at LDWF have made it even easier to ensure you have the license handy when your friendly game warden pulls up to the boat by offering e-licenses — an electronic version of your license that can be stored on your phone.

Remember, all anglers 16 years or older must possess a valid fishing license. Here’s a quick rundown of the licenses and associated costs:

Basic Fishing License — $9.50 (resident); $60 (non-resident)

Saltwater License (Basic Fishing License required) — $13; $30

Basic Fish Trip (1 day) — $5

Saltwater Trip (1 day) — $17.50

Hook and Line (cane pole) — $2.50

Charter Passenger License (3-day) — $10

Charter Skiff (3-day) — $30

LA Sportsman’s Paradise License — $100

Senior Fish/Hunt (60 years old or older) — $5

Non-Resident Student Basic Fishing — $9.50

NR Student Saltwater Fishing (Basic Fishing License required) — $5.50

Resident Disabled Basic Fishing — $2.50

Resident Disabled Saltwater — $2.50
