Cut Off angler wins Elite redfish event in Gulfport, earns $78,000

Reynolds wins Yellowfin Elite Redfish Series Mississippi Major

Two Louisiana anglers battled each other and Mother Nature last weekend at the Yellowfin Elite Redfish Series Mississippi Major last weekend in Gulfport.

But at the end of the tournament, Cut Off’s Lance Reynolds edged Nicky Savoie of Lockport by exactly 1 pound to earn the championship trophy.

Fishing in conditions so rough that tournament organizers moved the Day Two and Three launches and check-ins to Slidell, Reynolds managed a three-day total of 82.91 pounds, with a final-day catch of 27.5.

Savoie, who played tight end for the New Orleans Saints, finished exactly 1 pound behind the champion with 81.92 pounds, and 27.84 pounds on the final day.

The Mississippi Major is one of seven stops on the 2015 Yellowfin Elite Redfish Series. The field included 42 fishermen who were allowed to weigh their best three redfish. Fish caught in Mississippi waters could be as large as 30 inches, but fish caught in Louisiana could not exceed 27 inches.
