LDWF schedules drawdown for Iatt Lake in Grant Parish

Water level being lowered starting May 14 to control nuisance aquatic vegetation

In order to control nuisance aquatic vegetation, the water level on Iatt Lake in Grant Parish will be lowered beginning on May 14, according to a press release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

The water level will initially be lowered 6 feet from pool stage to evaluate the lake bottom, and if necessary, the lake might be drained an additional 2 feet to dry out the unwanted vegetation, the release states.

The control structure will remain closed no later than Oct. 15, 2015.

In addition to the drawdown, LDWF is planning herbicide treatments and the stocking of 49,000 sterile grass carp, according to the release.

Although the lake will not be closed to fishing, boaters are advised to use caution during the low water period, as boat lanes will not provide normal clearance from underwater obstructions.
