Search crews looking for missing boater on Bayou Manchac

12-foot bateau started taking on water about 3 miles upstream from Amite River, LDWF says

Search crews are currently looking for a 24-year-old Prairieville man whose boat started taking on water last night on Bayou Manchac, according to a press release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Authorities are searching for Allen Fitzgerald, who was traveling with one passenger in a 12-foot boat equipped with a 6 hp engine last night around 10 p.m., the release states

According to the passenger, who swam to shore and made it to a house to call 911, the boat started taking on water and sank in Bayou Manchac about 3 to 4 miles upstream of the Amite River, according to the release.

Neither man was wearing a personal flotation device, according to the passenger.

Crews searched for Fitzgerald until 3 a.m. this morning, and resumed the search in Ascension Parish at daylight, the release states.
