Crochet expects bass action ‘to explode’ across Louisiana during next warm-up

Even with colder weather forecasted to arrive Wednesday, ‘Cajun Baby’ thinks spawn is imminent

Despite the recent wild variations in temperature the last few weeks – cold then warm, warm then cold – Bassmaster Elite Series pro Cliff Crochet thinks the timing is almost right for the full-on bass spawn to begin.

On his way back home from this weekend’s Rat-L-Trap tournament at Toledo Bend, Crochet said he didn’t think the predicted late-week cold snap forecasted for Wednesday and Thursday would push the action back too much.

“The water temperature today at Toledo Bend was like 49 or 50. From being there this weekend and also fishing in the Basin last week, I think the whole state is about to explode,” Crochet said. “I think the next good warm spell we get, Louisiana is really going to shine as far as bass fishing.”

With the days steadily getting longer and March’s full moon on Thursday,  he said he thought the fish were ready to go – even with brief colder temperatures expected later this week.

“From what I’ve seen, even though the water temperature may not be perfect and we still have fronts coming, the biological clocks on these fish are still ticking,” he said. “If it was January or so, and it was getting warm and getting cold, that plays with them a little bit. But being so late in the year, I think they’re ready to go.

“I don’t think Louisiana will be a bad place to be fishing at all over the next month.”
