Father and son cited for allegedly harvesting polluted oysters

Incident occurred near Pointe-aux-Chenes on Feb .20, LDWF says

Acting on a complaint, agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries cited a father and son for alleged oyster violations near Pointe-aux-Chenes on Feb. 20, according to a press release.

Kenneth J. Naquin Jr., 28, of Montegut, and Kenneth J. Naquin Sr., 55, of Chauvin, were ticketed for harvesting oysters from an unapproved area, the release states.

The Naquins’ vessel and dredge were seized, and five sacks of oysters were returned to the water, according to the release.

Taking oysters from an unapproved area brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail and forfeiture of anything seized in connection with the violation.  The father and son could also have their oyster harvesting licenses suspended for a year and serve 40 hours of community service, the release states.
