Houma man dies in Intracoastal Waterway accident, LDWF says

A 38-year-old Houma man in an aluminum skiff with his father died after crossing a wake and being ejected into the Intracoastal Waterway near the intersection of Bayou Boeuf, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

The body of Wallace Bailey Jr., 38, was recovered Monday morning about 6:30 a.m. after an extensive search, the release states.

According to witnesses, Bailey, who was operating the skiff with a hand tiller, was with his father, Wallace Bailey Sr., 64, of Morgan City, Sunday morning about 9 when he crossed a wake, resulting in both men being ejected and the vessel sinking.

Witnesses pulled the elder Bailey from the water, but could not locate Bailey Jr., the release states.

Neither man was wearing a personal flotation device, according to the release.
