Season opens one-half hour before sunrise west of the Atchfalaya River, 6 p.m. east of the Atchafalaya

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission on Thursday announced the 2014 fall inshore shrimp season will open on Monday, Aug. 18.

One-half hour before sunrise, shrimping will open in inside waters from the western shore of the Atchafalaya River and the Atchafalaya Ship Channel westward to the Louisiana/Texas line.

That evening at 6 p.m., state inside waters east of the Atchafalaya will open.

Some areas are still closed to commercial fishing and some recreational fishing activities due to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Check out maps of the areas that remain closed by clicking here.
