LOWA announces Fish of the Year winners

Record gag grouper, gafftopsail cat take top honors for 2013

A state record gag grouper and gafftopsail catfish will be honored this weekend as the 2013 Fish of the Year winners by the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association.

Able Ceja, of Fordoche, will receive the Rod & Reel Division award for the new No. 1-ranked 74.43-pound grouper he caught last July on the Viosca Knoll out of Venice.

Victor E. Tedesco III, of Houma, will be named the Fly Fishing Division winner for landing his record 6.24-pound cat at the Buoy 13 rocks in Grand Isle last May.

Both men are scheduled to receive their awards Saturday night at LOWA’s annual convention in Houma.

LOWA has been the curator of the Louisiana state fish records since 1940.
