Two 700-pound marlin weighed in at the Cajun Canyons Billfish Classic

Sea Mixer’s 708-pounder narrowly takes 1st place in Venice

Two 700-plus-pound marlin separated by less than three pounds claimed the top two spots this weekend at the Cajun Canyons Billfish Classic at Cypress Cove Marina in Venice.

Late Saturday afternoon, Capt. Devin Potts and angler Chris Davis aboard the Sea Mixer weighed in a 121-inch marlin that tipped the scales at 708.6 pounds, narrowly edging out a marlin that weighed 706.1 pounds caught by Capt. Justin Drummond and angler Bob Johnson on board the Pipe Dream.

The tag/release division was won by Team Reel Worthless led by owner/angler Johnny Johnson and Captain Myles Colley with 4 blue marlin releases.

Team Reel Fire and Captain Mike Roberto finished in 2nd place with two releases, followed by

Team Rehab and owner/angler Jasen Gast with one release.

The dolphin division was won by angler Mike Akiu with a 29.2-pounder that was worth a whopping $85,950.

The tuna division was won by Team Cut N Run, led by captain and owner Geoff Collins, with angler Shane Zeringue weighing in a nice 154.3-pound yellowfin tuna worth $29,700.00.

The wahoo division was like the dolphin division, with only 2 wahoo weighed in. Angler Ryan Engquist brought in a 47.2-pounder, and Todd Waguespack caught a 32.4-pounder, both aboard the Chasin’ Tail.

The Top Female Angler Trophy went to the Reel Fire’s Kate Ferrara, who weighed in a nice 107.1-pound yellowfin tuna.

Team Reel Worthless, which also received an invitation to the Offshore World Championship, was awarded the C.R. Bob Potter Memorial Trophy as the top boat with 1,572 billfish points.
