Body of 28-year-old Baton Rouge man found in Amite River Diversion Canal

Victim may have bumped throttle as he climbed into unmanned boat from jet ski, LDWF says

Search and rescue teams found the body of Matthew Green, 28, about 2:45 Monday morning in the Amite River Diversion Canal in Ascension Parish, according to a press release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Green, who was riding a jet ski, was with another person in a boat Sunday evening when they decided to switch positions with each other about 7 p.m., the release states.

When Green tried to board the vehicle, he apparently bumped the throttle and lost his balance when the unmanned boat went into motion, sending him overboard. The boat then struck Green, according to the release.

Search and rescue teams from LDWF, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Gonzales Fire Department and the St. Amant Fire Department participated in the search.
