CCA Lake Charles Trout Shootout set for June 7 at Big Lake

Adult setting new Calcasieu Lake trout record wins 2014 F-150 Ford Super Crew

The Lake Charles Chapter of Coastal Conservation Association Louisiana will host the 29th Annual Lake Charles Trout Shootout on Saturday, June 7 at Calcasieu Point Landing.

The entry fee is $30, with all participants required to be current members of CCA. Kids 17-and-under fish free when accompanied by an adult.

Weigh-ins will be conducted from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This tournament encourages a catch, photograph and release (CPR) format where participating youth and adults fish for one trout to be weighed at the Shootout headquarters at Calcasieu Point Landing.

“With this CPR tournament, we are attempting to change the mindset that you don’t have to always keep trout to be a successful angler,” said Ramond Little with Lake Charles CCA. “And we encourage this approach with rewards from our sponsors for participating youth and adults.”

The one-day tournament touts a $5,000 cash grand prize for the largest trout caught in the Citgo adult division, based on 300 paid entrants. And the Whitney Bank youth division awards a $2,000 educational IRA for the largest trout.

Twenty places will be awarded in both the adult and youth divisions.

Additionally, prizes are awarded for the largest fish weighed every hour by Stine Home & Yard and Lake Charles Tackle.

An adult division angler who breaks the current Calcasieu Lake trout record is eligible to win a 2014 Ford F-150 Super Crew XLT 4×4 truck from Bolton Ford.

The current Calcasieu Lake record speckled trout weighed 11.16 pounds and was taken by Timothy Mahoney, II in May of 2002.

Entry forms are available online by clicking here or can be picked up in person at Lake Charles Tackle, Cajun Tackle, Cajun Fast Mart, Cormie’s, West Marine and Calcasieu Point Landing.
