Swindell newest member of Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission

Hammond resident to represent coastal parishes, commercial fishing and fur industries

Edward “Ed” W. Swindell, who was appointed to the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission in March by Governor Bobby Jindal, served at his first commission meeting Thursday in Baton Rouge, according to a press release.

Raised in Cameron Parish, Swindell worked for 38 years in the menhaden fishing and processing business, and also worked 11 years with Daybrook Fisheries, Inc. in Empire.

He will serve on the commission as a representative of the coastal parishes and the commercial fishing and fur industries, the release states.

He is replacing Stephen Sagrera, and his 6-year term expires in March of 2020.

“Active management plans and programs benefit resource protection and utilization by a wide diversity of user groups that depend on the availability of wildlife and fish for their livelihood and personal enjoyment,” Swindell said in the release. “I aim to assist the commission in the ongoing development and adjustment of management programs to ensure that Louisiana continues to be a leader in the seafood industry.”

Swindell, who received a B.S. in mechanical engineering from LSU, currently serves on a fisheries advisory panel for the Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission and is a member of CCA of Louisiana, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Louisiana Society of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

He is married to the former Rebecca Landry of Gonzales and they have three children and five grandchildren.
