Public land turkey hunting challenges featured tonight on Sportsman TV

Shane Johnson shares gobbler tips at 6:30 on CST

With host Greg Hackney off fishing a Bassmaster Elite Series tournament, Sportsman TV producer Jared Serigné is joined for tonight’s episode by veteran turkey hunter Shane Johnson to pursue some public land gobblers.

Johnson, of Singer, has hunted turkeys his whole life, and shares lots of information and tactics over three days of hunting at Fort Polk WMA, Peason Ridge WMA and Kistachie National Forest.

The pair put in lots of miles on foot and by truck in pursuit of a big gobbler, and on several occasions heard turkeys responding to Johnson’s calls, but the logistics of setting up cameras for the shoot and remaining concealed were too tough to overcome.

They didn’t bag a gobbler, but the show provides lots of useful information and is a testament to the challenge of hunting turkey on public land in Louisiana.

Sportsman TV airs on Cox Sports Television every Thursday night at 6:30, as well as Saturday mornings at 8:30 and Sunday mornings at 9.
